What Actually Happens at a Naturopathic Appointment
If you've never seen a naturopath before, here's what to expect from your first visit, the kinds of questions I ask, and why the appointment is 75 minutes long.
If you've never been to a naturopathic doctor before, the whole thing can feel like a mystery. What do I actually do? Is it going to be weird? Will I be told to drink celery juice? (No.) Here's a straightforward look at what a first appointment looks like.
The 75-Minute Initial Visit
Your first appointment is 75 minutes. That's not a typo. Most of my patients have never had a healthcare appointment that long, and the length itself is part of the point.
In 10 minutes, I can check a box and hand you a prescription. In 75 minutes, I can actually understand what's going on.
Before You Come In
You don't need a referral from your family doctor to see a naturopath in Saskatchewan. You can book directly online through Summit Sports & Health or by calling (306) 979-8753.
If you want to meet me before committing, I offer a free 15-minute meet & greet. No pressure, no sales pitch. Just a chance to see if we're a good fit, and for you to ask questions before investing the time and money.
What to bring: any recent lab work, a list of current medications and supplements, and your health concerns, even if they seem unrelated.
What I'll Ask About
Health history, medications, supplements, sleep, stress, digestion, energy, mood, menstrual health (if relevant), how you eat and move, what you've already tried. The more I know, the better the plan.
I'll also ask about your goals. Not weight goals. What do you actually want to feel like? What's getting in the way of your life right now? That's where we start.
My office is at Summit Sports & Health on 20th Street in Saskatoon's Riversdale neighbourhood. Virtual appointments are available for anyone in Saskatchewan.
After the Appointment
You'll leave with a clear plan. Not a generic handout. Lab requisitions if needed, supplement recommendations specific to your situation, and a follow-up timeline. Usually 4 to 6 weeks.
If something in the plan doesn't work for you, tell me. We'll adjust. The plan only works if it fits your actual life.
What Does It Cost?
Initial visit (75 min): $275. Follow-ups range from $80 (15 min) to $195 (45 min). Pediatric initials (45 min) are $195. Most extended health plans in Saskatchewan cover naturopathic medicine, and the clinic offers direct billing, so you may have no out-of-pocket cost at all.
